Ron Hinkle

Ron Hinkle's book, The Plectrum Banjo - Beyond Chord Melody, is a great educational tool for those who wish to get into the "nuts and bolts" of music theory and how it relates to the plectrum banjo.

A lot of detail is given to explaining musical scales and modes, something that is generally overlooked in the banjo world.  In reality, the uses of scales, modes, etc. are an integral part of music studied and played on almost every other instrument. 

Beyond Chord Melody goes on to explain the use of intervals, harmonized scales and other techniques so that plectrum banjoists can move to a higher level of playing.  This book is an excellent resource for plectrum players.  Further, the music theory information can be applied to ANY instrument!

The book also includes a CD of midi files so you can hear what is being shown in the book.
